Tri-City Ecology center is concerned with the natural environment of Fremont, Union City and Newark in Northern California, a non profit organization based in Alameda County which has a San Francisco Bay shoreline, East Bay parks including Sunol Wilderness Region and Mission Peak Regional Preserve.
Formed in 1971 as part of the first Earth Day event, a group of residents were motivated to start a community based recycling program with volunteer labor, moving with the times TCEC has representatives on Alameda County Environmental Sustainability Commission and the Alameda County Recycling Board.
Board Members also investigate and report to TCEC membership on innovations in compostible ware, initiatives from the Cities Parks and Rec. Departments, large scale and high environmental impact developments, and many other topics on matters arising.
Every member receives a monthly paper newsletter packed with articles about events of local interest, relevant State and Federal Bills proposed, signed or vetoed, upcoming classes or activities, and updates on hot topics from around the world.
The newsletter can be read on our app or by visiting the Main Library or Museum of Local History in Mission San Jose.
Fundraising events twice a year and membership subscriptions are used for donations to environmental non profits, buying books and educational resources for our libraries, eco-grants to youth in our midst with a passion for an environmental project such as restoring a building at Ohlone Wildlife Rehab Center or building a raised bed garden at a homeless shelter.
